About us

what is ferryfest?

Ferryfest is an annual community festival that starts with a pram parade through the streets of Briton Ferry and ends with a family fun festival at Briton Ferry Rugby Club, put on by a group of volunteers as a non-profit constitution. Rock the day away with us on the bank holiday and enjoy the live entertainment, various food vendors and stalls, and activities for all ages.

Our goal? To give people of all ages in Briton Ferry a chance to relax and have fun at an affordable event for their families.

The Pram Parade is a great way for family, friends or colleagues to get together to theme, organise and build your pram, get your fancy dress together and enjoy walking the parade throughout the streets of Briton Ferry lined with people cheering you on. If you'd like to enter our pram parade please email us at ferryfest@outlook.com.

To help keep our costs as low as possible we look at the possibilities of funding, support from local businesses, sponsorships, and any donations. If you would like to help donate or sponsor Ferryfest, please contact us via email at ferryfest@hotmail.co.uk and a member of our committee will get in contact with you.

2025 will be the 4th Ferryfest and this is because of the massive support given to and most importantly by the people of Briton Ferry.

Our History

The Pram Parade originally started in memory of a young Briton Ferry lad David May who sadly passed away at the age of 18 in 1983.

Vicar Butler heard about David’s story and along with Hugh James wanted to do something to raise money for the hospital and The Pram Race was organised in David’s memory and went ahead in June 1983. A lot of money was raised and items purchased for the hospital Ward 6.

In the early days The Pram Race left The Ship Inn and went down the canal which was really funny as most prams and people ended up in the canal as everyone wanted to win the race. After getting out of the canal they joined the rest of the parade and stopped at all pubs in Briton Ferry ending up at Briton Ferry Rugby Club. The name was soon to be changed to The Pram Parade and the route was also changed away from the canal. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the control of the organisers The Pram Parade was stopped in the early 90’s.

We had the idea to revamp The Pram Parade in June 2022, and David’s mother Susan was delighted that it was being revived. As we wanted to make The Pram Parade into a full day of family entertainment that the whole community could get involved with and enjoy after having spent a long time in isolation due to lockdown from Covid-19.

In Sept 2021 meetings were held to put an organising committee together to start organising The Pram Parade for 2022 to be held on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and it was decided to rename it Ferryfest.

The first year was the hardest as we had to explain why we needed all the things required to make Ferryfest happen. We absolutely did not anticipate the turnout that we had. The parade had prams from the ridiculous to the exceptional and the streets were packed with people supporting the parade. We were completely overwhelmed by the actual attendance and was no way prepared for the queues!! BUT, it was completely worth it. Everyone had a blast and it brought the communittee back together.
